Mrs. Bailey was known for her green thumb, particularly during her years in Winter Haven, where she was always surrounded by a colorful variety of flowers. Her passion for gardening continued when she and her husband moved to Reston, where she proudly displayed her flowers on her balcony overlooking Lake Anne.
She also loved to bake and her family said she was renowned for her banana bread and cookies, which she shared with family and friends. The pulling of homemade peanut brittle was a much anticipated annual ritual among Mrs. Bailey grandchildren. Her family also said there was not a day that passed when Mrs. Bailey did not mail off a note to one or more of her many friends and family members.
Mrs. Bailey was the matriarch of a large and extended family. She is survived by daughter Susan and son-in-law Patrick Kane of Reston and daughter Jane Smith of San Jose, Calif.; her seven grandchildren, Leslie, Alicia, Brian, Christopher, Tasha, Catherine and Amanda; and her seven great-grandchildren, Grace, Sam, Olivia, Lauren, Dillon, Sydney and Ryan.
